Fellows Blog: Day 25

This morning’s vibe was laying in bed for half an hour before deciding we should probably actually get up. Amber had veggie sticks and a Dole fruit cup for breakfast, Haleigh had a Dole fruit cup, trail mix, a protein bar, cheeze-it’s, sesame cashews, and some of Amber’s veggie sticks. She was still hungry, and she wanted vegetable samosas as soon as we got to summer gardens. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any today… just like they didn’t have them yesterday :(

Unfortunately, Kyrillos woke up with a migraine, so we told him to get some rest for the rest of the day. You can only open the door from the inside if you have a key so he is locked in our place, but he’ll be ok. The morning started out rather slow for kyrillos, getting some extra rest until the migraine settled a little. Around midday, Amber and Dvir graciously came to open the door and Kyrillos reunited with the team.

Our hands off approach to get the TOTs to teach semi backfired today as they didn’t number some of the papers properly, lost printed copies we needed, broke into practical stations at the wrong times, and didn’t appear to heed the feedback we’ve provided the last three days after trainings. We resolved it all and were also a little frustrated, but all in all we’re grateful for all their time and effort and we couldn’t do this without them.

Haleigh and Amber had a plate of chips and African Tea with honey for lunch. The latter ended up being more like milk and honey, but it was still very soothing. We met a few locals: one was very interested in our project and was offering some recommendations to us, and another who wanted to start a clothing business in Mukono and tried to sell us some clothes.

After training, we went to the restaurant with the boda bodas for the eighth time. For the eighth time in 10 days, we ordered a plate of rice for lunch (they didn’t have peas today). We will admit it’s getting much less appealing… #principleofdiminishingmarginalreturns

We decided we all needed to eat more, so went to cafe delish for some pasta, chicken and pizza (which we found a chicken bone in). More importantly… we had a mini arm wrestling competition! Proud to say that three of us are undefeated :) there, Amber and Haleigh also managed to convince spontaneous kyrillos NOT to get a milkshake because “it seemed sus”

Even though it may seem like not much happened today, we kept busy as we continued to make plans and finalize the details of the advanced medical and obstetrics curriculum.

Sorry for the blog being so short today, we’re all pretty tired, but here are two of our favorite Ugandan songs!

Freya got us an avocado! Not sure if we’ll be eating it (it’s not ripe) but will be good for Kyrillos’ monkey in the middle endeavors.

Haleigh actually sleeping, Amber pretending to be sleeping but actually taking the picture.

Our nutritious lunch featuring, yep you guessed it, the unperforated ketchup packets. Haleigh used her same strategy as opening the chili packet, but was much better at it this time and only sprayed a little bit of ketchup.

In spite of being pretty hungry, the three of us could barely muster up the appetite to finish a single plate of rice.

Thought Amber was a future criminal? Guess again, Haleigh got arrested… (kidding, it’s Cafe Delish’s bathroom)
