Nigeria Blog: Day 3
Day 3 in Lagos got off to a late start - literally. Zach and I set our alarms for 9am. But as soon as we took our eyemasks on (I swear by those and will convert Zach into an eyemask addict by the end of this trip), it was 12:30pm. It had been 18 hours since we last ate food so we decided to just walk towards the national stadium and try to find a meal. There were at least 30 lovely residents of Lagos who were vying for our attention, telling us about the best food options in the city. So of course we invited our new friends to lunch at Debonairs Pizza and shared 3 large Za’s. Only pineapple on pizza fans were invited (just kidding). Photo evidence below!
Unfortunately, our pizza excursion was our most exciting outing of the day. We decided to help our friends at HEI record our pre and post training surveys which took 10 hours to do! We basically took up a whole section at the hotel bar and converted it into a library just a day after we were enjoying drinks and conversation with some friends last night.
Even though it was a busy day of work for us in Lagos, we couldn’t be happier with the results from our data. We’re seeing that our TOTs, trainers in Nigeria who Zach and I have trained to train first responders, are doing a wonderful job improving our first responders understanding of scene management, bleeding control, fracture management and victim transport, results that we’ll be publishing in the coming months. A big day tomorrow - our full first in-person training with HEI so stay tuned! - Ashwin
