Fellows Blog: Day 43

We had a peaceful morning until we discovered we had run out of wifi for the 68th time. We bought 5 GB at 11:38 pm last night and were 70% done with data by 1:15 am. The only activity we did in those times is post the blog and then sleep… nonetheless, we will be beyond ecstatic to never give another cent to Airtel again.

The rest of the morning and early afternoon, we did some work, slept and packed. A collection of things Amber found in her suitcase that would have been useful if not for the fact that we leave tomorrow:

-cockroach spray (tbt to the bug spray attempt that didn’t kill the cockroach)

-life straw water bottles (Amber conveniently showed this to Haleigh while Haleigh was filtering water for the 137th time, although we both agreed we wouldn’t have trusted the water from the bottles anyways)

-fancy eucalyptus and spearmint hand sanitizer

-a roll of 2 ply charmin ultra soft toilet paper

-5 plastic bags (for context, we don’t have trash bags here so have been using empty boxes of water bottles for trash for the past 4 weeks. The plastic bags would have been good trash bags)

For lunch, Amber and Haleigh ate sour cream and onion pringles with beans. Kyrillos was too lazy to boil water for ramen (or put it in the microwave), so he ate the uncooked ramen with seasoning. In the evening, Amber and Kyrillos went on yet another excursion with the TOTs while Haleigh finalized some more logistics with Hannington. They even got to watch a bit of a pick-up soccer game happening on a field near the town- because it’s a nice field, it costs 3000 UGX to play. Kyrillos claims to be an all star soccer player, but today he simply did a great job watching and yelling from the sidelines.

We met up with Haleigh for dinner. Tonight we had one of our favorite meals of beans and chapati for the last time. We ended our last night here by having an LFR meeting, doing some more packing and cleaning, and queuing up Amber’s playlist of goodbye songs.

Beans and pringles: if you close your eyes, it can be nachos!

The soccer field where Kyrillos was everyone’s number one fan!

This is one of the few meals where Haleigh and Amber don’t split one plate :)

We received flowers for our hair on our walk home- shoutout George William!

We were so excited to try the mango we bought here, but it wasn’t ripe yet. Haleigh got impatient and cut it up because we aren’t going to be home to eat it tomorrow. It was in fact very unripe :(

Yet to be seen footage of the daily occurrence of Amber and Kyrillos fighting over the couch spot

The final result of this encounter, with Kyrillos’ legs going numb

We were on local television for our DHO meeting! Although it was only for a short period of time, we were delighted to find out it was one of the biggest news channels here. #fifteensecondsoffame
