Day 14
We all slept in and ate French toast, pancakes, and jollof rice and plantains (guess who was who). The chill day was greatly appreciated but does not make for good blog content, so this is very short and mainly told through pictures.
Around 3:15 we met up with Chika, who took us to Yaba market, where we did trainings the first day. Our goal was to find fabric to bring to the tailor to make us authentic Nigerian clothes (Aayush was a trooper for coming shopping with us instead of watching the man United game). We found some nice fabric that we’ll reveal when we get the outfits, a necklace for Mary and a fan for Haleigh. The rest of the day is summarized in our captions.
7-4 (order has been restored)
Cute backseat selfie as Aayush yet again takes the passenger (jk he offered it to Chika multiple times)
Chika was on a mission to find a duvet cover and we all had opinions for her
Aayush was “Shazamming” every song in the market to add to his Nigerian songs playlist
We all got free tailoring measurements from one store after Mary bought some fabric
Candid of Aayush stealing Mary’s water and Haleigh telling the tailor measurer she didn’t really care what clothes she got, whatever was recommended was good
There were so many fabric options all over the walls
If you look closely, there are piles and piles of mannequins
We bought 3 of these cut stalks of sugarcane! The hotel gave us boiling water and salt to clean, which we agreed took a lot of the flavor out. Mary texted Aayush saying “Aayush come, it’s an emergency” to which he responded “I’m 80% sure this is going to be a bug”, but we really just wanted him to try these African pears and the sugarcane. However we forgot to tell him you chew and then spit out the sugarcane and he was disgusted for the rest of the experience
There were bags and bags of clothes that everyone was rummaging through to find Chika the perfect shirt to match the fabric of her pants
We got dinner at a supermarket (spaghetti and meat pies) and found bottled water for the equivalent of 7 cents (the hotel had been charging us over 50 cents per bottle) and Aayush fulfilled his highly awaited m&m quest
Watching the Manchester United game during our 45 minute wait for an Uber (not pictured, Aayush leaving the room two minutes later when the score was 0-2)
The results of our shopping escapades
Asian pears from the market, kind of look like eggplants
A close up of the Asian pear, kind of had an avocado consistency and a hint of a lemony taste, with a hard skin around it
Very busy market!
